Ecommerce and the Recession

Today is expected to be the busiest day of online shopping this year, it is estimated that over £320 million will be spent in online shops. As the economy grinds to a stop, banks are failing and we are apparently facing the worst recession since the 30's, it appears that people are still spending... just online instead of in traditional shops.

Online retailers are expecting to see a 15% increase in sales over this Christmas period compared to last year. It seems that people are turning on their computers and shopping online to save time, money and effort in the run up to Christmas. Even on Christmas day itself last year online retailers saw over £80 million being spent online. If you have a shop, you may be missing out on this huge online shopping boom if you choose to ignore it.

The fact is that companies are becoming more unwilling to spend, the last thing many retailers need at the moment are more overheads. However, many financial experts have agreed that by investing in the right marketing and by reaching more customers your business can survive this recession. By cutting back on paper and billboard advertising including the Yellow Pages and investing in things like Search Engine Optimisation and E-commerce Web Design that bring back a high return of investment your shop will thrive. Reaching the top of Google via successful SEO can bring huge amounts of targeted traffic straight to your products and by having a well designed and thought out e-commerce website will help turn those visitors into conversions.
